- epitome (ep-ih-tome)
- chaos (chouse)
- chihuahua (chih-hoo-a-hoo-a)
- macabre (mackaber)
- devour (d'vore)
Mostly learned through reading and not realizing that they were the same word that I'd heard pronounced. I still screw up the last two.
There are more. There was a good one the other day that I forget now.

Denouement is a good one.
This one's in reverse: Dan Dennett talks about a literature professor who had gotten a student paper on fantasy echo poetry. This professor couldn't figure out what this term meant, and asked the student, who said that he had gotten it from the professor's own lectures. The professor eventually figured it out: he had mentioned 19th century poetry in the fin de siècle style.
